While Maude Mgilicutti is trying to survive the ups and downs of middle school, her childhood stuffed animal, Longo Bottomhill, mysteriously comes to life. Now she has to balance family, friends, homework, and the wild plushie wreaking havoc across her life.
Set in the early 2000s, Maude and her parents have just moved to a small midwestern town because of Mr. Mgilicutti's new job. As if she wasn't already intimidated by 7th grade, she's going in with no friends and a lack of identity. It seems her new house has secrets, however, as unbeknownst to her a young ghost haunts its walls. Feeling just as alone as Maude feels, the young spirit decides to possess an old sock puppet, not realizing doing so would give him amnesia. Now with a sentient plushie, Maude learns to open up and begin new friendships, and is reminded by Longo how to be a kid.
